Tirta Empul Purification Ceremony
A respectful, guided water purification ceremony at Bali's holiest spring temple — an authentic cultural experience, not a photo op.
The day
Tirta Empul is a 10th-century temple built around a holy spring, and for over a thousand years Balinese Hindus have come here to perform melukat — a purification ritual where you submerge your head under the spring's 30+ spouts in a specific order. Most tourists visit for the photos; this tour is different. Made brings a local Balinese guide who explains the spiritual meaning, walks you through preparation (offering-making, proper sarong, prayer mantras), and joins you in the water as you move spout by spout. It's an hour of genuine cultural immersion that stays with you. We pair it with Goa Gajah (Elephant Cave) and a local lunch on the return.
